In the 1970s experimental poet Hannah Weiner began to write “clairvoyant poems” based on words she would perceive on people, objects, and even her own forehead. She believed these words were messages being sent by other people or beings outside herself. On the back cover of Clairvoyant Journal 1974 Jackson MacLow writes “Hannah Weiner is the only clairvoyant I know, or that I’ve ever known, as far as I’ve known […] Her achievement—& it is a considerable one—lies in her having developed a specific literary form through which to convey her remarkable experience.”
