Giant Night

The cover, with an illustration by George Schneeman.

Giant Night is Angel Hair co-founder Anne Waldman’s first book and was printed in an edition of 100 mimeographed copies. Waldman first wrote the four-page poem on December 3, 1967, one year before it was published by Angel Hair. Giant Night is a reflection on the life she and Lewis Warsh shared while living on St. Mark’s Place in the East Village. The cover illustration was designed by George Schneeman, who was known for his obscure and quietly subversive paintings. Waldman silkscreen printed the cover by hand and signed each copy. At 14 inches tall, this chapbook is distinctively oversized.
