Mary Oliver’s aptly titled late collection Felicity is, in large part, about the contentment and steadiness that comes with a happy relationship, and this short poem is an example of how that same happiness and contentment spill over into everyday observations. Oliver’s warm curiosity and compassion shine in this piece, which places a cricket at center stage.
