Existing Archives Shelving

When the Helen S. Schaefer building was completed in 2007, its architects predicted that the Poetry Center would need to begin adding shelf space to keep up with the pace of acquisitions once the library collection reached 50,000 books. That milestone was reached in 2017. In this picture, taken just before the installation of high-density mobile shelving in Fall 2019, we can see how full the shelving in the Archives Room had become: books fill each stack from top to bottom.
