Izumi Shikibu was a lady-in-waiting in the Imperial court of Japan during the Heian era. Among the greatest poets of classical Japan, she is particularly well known for her passionate, graceful, and concise love poetry. This broadside was printed by Copper Canyon Press, probably in commemoration of the anthology The Erotic Spirit: An Anthology of Poems of Sensuality, Love, and Longing, edited by Copper Canyon Press co-founder Sam Hamill.
