Tanja Leonhardt is an artist based in Germany whose initial formal training was in calligraphy and typography. She has also studied textiles, gilding, video, and photography, and she has created numerous artist’s books, sculptures, and art installations in various parts of Europe. This year the Poetry Center commissioned an English-language edition of her 2016 artist’s book Caretta caretta (blue), an enormous book object that pairs dreamlike images of swimming loggerhead sea turtles with a lyrical poem.
