Detail of flap

This broadside, printed to commemorate t'ai freedom ford's reading at the Center for Book Arts in 2015, embodies the poem it presents in layout and construction. freedom ford’s poem moves like a kaleidoscope, one word transformed into another, always shifting; on the broadside, text moves in different directions, a portion of the poem partially hidden by a flap. The flap opens to reveal the full poem, and a startling patch of red confronts the viewer, underscoring the poem’s engagement with violence and racial injustice.
