Frost’s 1950 Christmas greeting contains advice from a political oracle in the person of a “Cumaean Sybil, charming Ogress,” who provocatively tells the poet “that liberal or conservative / The state’s one function is to give.” Wood-engravings for this card were by Fritz Eichenberg.
