“The Impatient Mermaid” was printed on handmade paper made from porridge papers in Lincoln, Nebraska and boasts Matthea Harvey’s own clever illustration of flocks of silhouetted mermaids with pistols for tails. This prose poem originally appeared in Harvey’s 2014 book If the Tabloids Are True, What Are You? (Graywolf Press) and was printed as a broadside in honor of Harvey’s 2015 visit to the Rose O’Neill Literary House at Washington College. This broadside was designed by Jehanne Dubrow and printed by Mike Kaylor in an edition of 75.
